I’ve lived in Dubai for almost five years now because I don’t like paying high taxes or living in an angry, collapsing society like the United States. (Or Canada. Or the UK. Or…)
Often when I tell people I live in Dubai, I get a response like this:
“Oh man, living in Dubai would be awesome! But it’s too hot there.”
Then I respond,
“It’s only really hot about 4 months a year in Dubai. So, no problem, during those months I’m just not there.”
Then I get this blank, dead, confused stare as a response, like a neuron in their brain misfired.
Most human beings, unfortunately, live in a very outdated (and frankly very stupid) location-dependent paradigm.
If I live somewhere, I HAVE TO BE THERE 12 months out of the year and I can’t go anywhere else.
This is because my dumb job or dumb family or dumb business won’t let me leave where I live. I have to stay there pretty much 12 months a year because “I don’t have a choice.”
Well, if you’re a normal human, that’s right. You have location-dependent income that requires you to stay in your horrible, collapsing Western city or nation.
Or perhaps you’re a pussy in a traditional live-in monogamous relationship with a bitchy, dominant girlfriend or wife who “won’t let you” spend time in other countries whenever you want.
But when you don’t have that problem, when you’re 100% location-independent like I am (and I’m married, so it’s possible) and can make money regardless of where you are in the world, many negatives of the countries, cities, or regions you’re considering suddenly vanish and don’t affect you at all.
It’s too hot there certain months of the year?
No problem, go somewhere it’s nice during those months.
It’s too hard to get certain electronics, items, or pharmaceuticals there?
No problem, go get them in other countries whenever you want and hang out there while you’re there.
You’ll miss your extended family if you’re away for too long?
No problem, go spend 3 months a year back in your home country visiting them.
The jobs suck there?
No problem. Don’t have a job. Have a 100% location-independent business serving customers/clients in a wealthier country.
I’m shocked at the number of excuses people point out about various countries I recommend to live that are literally irrelevant when you’re location-independent.
Stop acting like a plant and get location-independent. Then you’ll be shocked at how easier, nicer, and more livable the entire planet suddenly becomes, even the places you think have “problems.”
