Whenever I hear about accelerationism, my mind instantly goes to Zelasny's Lord of Light. That book is great.
And on that note, this brings to mind the hindi trinity, Brahman, Vishnu and Shiva. One creates, the other regulates, the other destroys. It's necessary to destroy in order to create again. That's what the US (and Canada, and Europe, and Australia and New Zealand) need now, a complete clean house.
Let the Titanic hit the iceberg, at some point when the boat is halfway in the ocean they'll realize there aren't enough lifeboats and, as sad as it is, that's what it's going to take for them to wake up.
